Adam L Berman
Adam is an experienced medical device leader with a focus on minimally-invasive cardiovascular technology Commercialization, R&D and Operations. Adam co-Founded TVA with Billy Cohn, built the team and has lead the strategy and execution of the company since its inception, including venture and strategic investment rounds.
In prior roles, Adam has been responsible for the development and commercialization of cardiovascular laser ablation systems, cardiovascular anastomotic devices and robotic surgical systems. His past companies include Coalescent Surgical, Inc. (now Medtronic), MedicalCV, Inc., Castlewood Surgical and Computer Motion, Inc. (now Intuitive Surgical).
Adam received his BSE Magna Cum Laude in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his MSE in Bioengineering from the University of Washington.
Katherine S Kumar, PhD
Katherine is an experienced leader in clinical strategy and regulatory affairs. Most recently, Katherine was Sr. Director of Science & Clinical Affairs at Cardiovascular Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSII) where she was responsible for clinical study development and execution, all scientific activities and, the bridge between clinical and marketing activities. Katherine’s ability to quickly assess business needs led to the establishment of a growth oriented clinical strategy and a best in class clinical operations and science teams. Amongst the most notable achievements was a “findings free” FDA BIMO audit for the pivotal coronary artery PMA trial. The quality execution of this trial resulted in one of the fastest PMA approvals in the history of coronary artery devices. Prior to CSI she was with the Medrad Interventional/Possis business unit of Bayer HealthCare, leading the clinical efforts for the combination product division focused on developing drug coated balloons. Katherine also held clinical positions with American Medical Systems, and several startup companies developing various therapeutic devices worldwide.
Katherine earned her MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering with honors from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and holds the Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC)
Philip M Tetzlaff
Philip is a leader in the research, development and manufacturing of energy based medical devices. Most recently, as a Senior Director at Arthrocare, he lead multiple development teams for the company’s core product portfolio. At Tyco Healthcare (now Medtronic), Philip led the technology and product development efforts of the LigaSure vessel sealing line as Director of R&D. His prior companies include Glucon, Cardio-Optics, Lockheed Martin and Nordick Track. Philip holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
Michael brings over 14 years of experience in the medical device industry, having held various roles in early stage companies including sales, sales management, clinical affairs and professional education and training. His prior companies include Cytyc (now Hologic), Foxhollow (now Medtronic), Access Closure (now Cardinal Health), and Cardiovascular Systems Inc.
Prior to starting his career in the medical device industry, he was an officer in the US Army. Michael earned his BA in economics from Tulane University.
Michelle L Machuca
Michelle Machuca is a Strategic Marketing expert with experience in new therapy commercialization and acquisition integration. Michelle previously ran Cardiovascular Marketing and the customer education center at St. Jude Medical. Prior, at Medtronic Cardiovascular, she lead the global marketing and commercial expansion for transcatheter valve therapy post-acquisition of CoreValve, achieving TAVI market share leadership and increasing product adoption by 4X in more than 35 countries. Previous experience includes leading marketing and commercial operations at Sorin CRM and marketing and sales roles at Medtronic CRM and Guidant Corporation.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Rice University.
David J Gunther
David comes to TVA Medical with extensive experience in cardiovascular medical device clinical adoption and commercialization. David has held sales, sales management, and National Training positions at three consecutive early stage startup companies from initial commercialization to successful exit: AccessClosure (acquired by Cardinal Health), Foxhollow (acquired by ev3 now Medtronic), and Coalescent Surgical (acquired by Medtronic, Inc.) Prior, David held sales positions at Ethicon Endo-Surgery and Pfizer.
David holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemisty from University of Notre Dame.
