Hemodialysis Patients Need a Better Solution
Vascular access is the “lifeline” for hemodialysis patients. Options for access include central venous catheters, AV grafts, and AV fistulas. Regardless of the modality, current access options remain limited.
Vascular access is the leading cause of hospitalizations and morbidity in patients with end stage renal disease. Surgical fistulas are the preferred vascular access with lower mortality rates, less infections and lower cost of dialysis delivery, however they are not a perfect solution.
